Wow, what a busy day!
Today was picture day which was exciting enough, but today we also had our first lesson out of the hardcover Math book. It will take some of the students a little getting used to doing their math homework in this format, but I am very pleased with how well they did today. The process should only get easier and easier!
We also had our first "real" Social Studies assignment in which they had to complete a worksheet by reading their text to find the information. This also is a new and unfamiliar process but once again I was pleased with how our first attempt went.
In English we had our first official assignment in the workbook. The students have been working on becoming familiar with how to use the reference section in the back, where to find the information they need, and how to flip back and forth from the reference in the back to the page on which they are working. These are not necessarily easy things to do.
In all of these classes we will be doing most of the work in class until I believe they are comfortable with what they need to do and how it should be done. You may notice an increase in homework over the next several days, but as the students get into the swing of things (and if they make good use of their work time) they should be able to get a lot of their work done in school. Please let me know if you think your child is spending an unreasonable amount of time on homework at home.
